After the Jury meeting on 30. June - 01. July following artists have been selected to participate in the 2007 - 2009 NOMAD program and will be part of the open network researching on the toppic of ART AS OPTION FOR ACTION:
Giorgio Andreotta Calò
Born 1979 in Venice, Italy/ Lives and works in Venice, Italy
My research is focused on questioning the concept of the monument, on how architecture can embody the rising and falling of utopias and of concepts of living. Walking around cities I particularly notice types of buildings which represent a time that is gone, or which are in transition from an older socio-political identity to a new one. Through my interventions, I attempt to reveal this aspect of transition. I am not trying to stop the entropic process but rather I am celebrating it. For many years I had documented the processes of change in life and society and later the core of my practice shifted from documenting to taking concrete actions. I would like to go on developing forms of art which make changes visible and possible.

Katharina Morawek
Born 1979 in Linz, Austria/ Lives ad works in Vienna, Austria
...My artistic practice tends to involve “situated research”, research that is informed by my own activist practice and that of my collaborateurs, trying to take into account my position as a white, middleclass academic and artist). Part of my work has also been about the creation of (mental or physical) collective situations and spaces in order to identify and describe, analyze and propose solutions to concrete problems facing artists and activists seeking to politicize their practices. (related projects: MALMOE magazine, self institutional space keine_uni, several collaborative working groups). The results are never a neutral matter-of-fact description of the world nor academic research, but are meant to be a resource for artist-activists trying to invent new forms of practice and radical culture, driven by the question of how art could reorganize people's sense of their possibilities, culturally and intellectually...

Timea Anita Oravecz
Born 1975 in Budapest, Hungary/ Lives and works in Venice, Italy
My work as an artist is a practice of survival. Not only in an economical way, but in struggling for new perspectives and formats of and for living. Bags, mobile house, changing housing and at the same time a strong connection whit the context form where I grow up: Budapest, the socialist reality and my old house, representing my origin and the place I come from.Travels and a nomadic lifestyle are influencing my method of working, they have become an essential part of my work.

Tomka Weiss
Born 1977 in Aachen, Germany/ Lives and works in Bremen, Germany
Gender-/Bodypolitics and in this sense also (broader) political, societal activities are in the focus of my artwork. As boxer and artist and due to my background in a genderqueer community I am at the same time providing different angles of observation to this topic. I am interested in ”normality” and even more in ”the unnormal”. Primary medias of my picturework are silk-printing and photography, whereas other medias like movies, drawing and handcraft are not left out. A nonetheless important perspective of artistic communication is put on shows (Sissy Boyz.de, Ärtzte ohne Ängste) and performances.

Metka Zupanic
Born 1977 in Ptuj, Slovenia/ Lives and works in Ptuj, Slovenia
My projects usually concerned with the local environment and it s problems. I understand the artistic process as a form of mediation, exchange and collaboration... I work with various media, tackles such themes as document, body and communication. I strive to bring the public site closer to the people, to make it part of their private environment, and thus in a subtle way to subvert the opposition between public and private.

Johan Berard
Born 1977 in Paris, France/ Lives and works in Bourgese and Paris, France
In the elaboration of a project, I have for custom to have an approach in situ, and to develop a reflection around a public handbook. These two elements are very important for me, and they ask the following questions: what work of art, for which public and in which condition? These questions seem evident when they are put in a gallery an institution or a art center. But these same questions become more complex when the radius of action of the artist widens and gets the other sectors of the life. Indeed, how act and communicate with a public foreign to the art? For example for my work Timer, I had intended to show this animation on all the computers of a company. Of this fact Timer would be presented here as a screensaver and would bustle only when the worker does not use his computer. This device would add a new function to the work: to measure and make visible the moments of inactivity in the company, it would thus become a sort of tool of informing, While preserving his capacity to seduce his user.

Rémi Bragard
Born 1978 in Marseille, France/ Lives and works in Marseille, France
These realizations do not follow a unique step, I do not work "on" anything in particular, the interest is to investigate the various forms that the practice of the contemporary sculpture, through its widened vocabulary can borrow. Tools and functional objects are the main actors deviants, diverted from their initial activity, they propose new situations. Often they propose a projection, for " corrosion organisée", the time is counted because his structure auto-digests, "balise" indicates potential spaces, while « turn-over » offers a rotating mirror that reflects a snapshot, an image in constant renewal.

Lizza May David
Born 1975 in Quezon City, Philippines/ Lives and works in Berlin, Germany
My artistic development started in the environment of Minimalism and Conceptual Art, finally arriving at mixed media art and documentary filming. My field of interest is spread over from the investigation of my own biography, like turning points of leaving homeland; investigation of the material of urban faces, architecture and its media representation; looking for inbetween fields and pointing out references between the personal and political, the private and public, the visible and invisible. Operating with different media (photography, video, site-specific installations) allows me to build up subtle relation-and-reference systems among the works.

Specialized in graphic and industrial design, sculptural and installation work, and research-based intermedia projects in the fields of urban graphic and spatial solutions, public art and open-air architectural constructions. His main activity stems from the new media practices and cybernetic realities, and questions the ways through which artists position themselves in-between the self-organized/self-managed structures and those pertaining to larger organizational and institutional team-based frameworks.
