NOMAD raises questions on strategies of cultural practitioners, conditions for the production of contemporary art and generates situations for critical perspectives.
For the research phase 2007-2009 SODAart has outlined the subject area under the title “Art as Option for Action”.
Our research and productions during this time are questioning the effects that contemporary art has in the present contemporary life and the options of acting for the artist within this sphere of influence.
A central topic for today’s artists is the interaction with the units relevant to the production of art, the forms of placement and mediation of art and the possibilities and limits for communication of content in different fields (institutions, audiences, the media, public and private spaces, communities, the “art world”, political fields, etc.).
Art today has conquered all spheres of life, it is working interdisciplinary and experimental, it takes from life, modifies, reflects and communicates. Consequently it is an influencing force to the realities of societies and strategies of living together (or apart).
Content is not only communicated through the relation of institutions of art and the individual artist and represented by those institutions, but through various channels and process oriented strategies produced by the artists themselves, such as actions in public space, interventions, sabotage art, self organized shows and artist lead project spaces. Especially emerging artists claim their freedom and power of formulating and contextualising there spheres of action.
The empowerment of the emerging artist as a disruptive factor to given realities, a creator of alternatives and risk taking worker in the complex laboratory of contemporary life is the topic area for the NOMAD artist in residence and networking actions in 2007-2009.
